On April 24th LAUSD Superintendent Austin Beutner spent “A Day in the Life” with Teamsters members at Reseda High School. Maria Freeman, School Administrative Assistant, was eager to put Superintendent Beutner to work during a routine morning at Reseda HS. She tasked him with ensuring classrooms had substitute support, checking teachers time cards, and answering questions from staff. Once he was done there, Superintendent Beutner met Supervising Special Education Assistant David Hurtado at the bus gate to make sure arriving Special Education students made it to their classrooms safely. As with any normal day, their tasks were frequently interrupted with those “other duties as assigned” which included dropping everything to help a student exit a vehicle. Mr. Beutner shared with the Teamsters that David was the fastest walker he had met and all who were present agreed. David said he has to be fast to walk his campus. In the end, all involved agreed that Superintendent Beutner has an increased appreciation for the challenging and amazing work Teamsters members perform at the District every single day.
