Re: Coronavirus, COVID-19
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
While we continue to navigate the impact of COVID-19 on our membership, it is clear this is a dynamic situation and that there is still a lot we don’t know. We are looking to reputable health organizations and federal and state agencies to provide ongoing guidance.
We have been in contact with all our employer representatives and are doing our best to keep the safety and well-being of our members as the employers’ top priority. We are facing different situations in different communities, school districts and industries and are having to adapt to the fast-paced changes. Our best advice is to reach out to your business representative for information about your individual workplace.
Remember that your employer has an obligation to keep you safe, whether it’s at the workplace or on the road. We have had to push back against employers who have forgotten they have this obligation and we will continue to do so until this message is clear. We are fighting for paid sick leave, protective equipment and adequate training, and commonsense attendance policies to limit exposure.
To date, we have been notified of numerous school closures affecting our members. The school bus employers are working with the school districts in an effort to minimize the financial impact of the closures on our membership. We will share the information once firm decisions have been made. At LAUSD, our business representatives are tirelessly working to ensure our members are safe and being treated fairly-for the latest information call your business representative or visit LAUSD’s website.
