Teamsters Local 572 Condemns Violent ICE Raids and Injury of SEIU President David Huerta

Los Angeles, CA — June 6, 2025 — Teamsters Local 572 condemns the violent and indiscriminate Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids conducted today across Los Angeles, which resulted in the injury of Service Employees International Union-USWW President, David Huerta. These aggressive actions by ICE not only threaten the safety of immigrant communities but also undermine the fundamental rights of individuals committed to peaceful observation and advocacy.

Today, during Huerta’s lawful and peaceful participation in community protests, he was targeted, attacked, and beaten by ICE agents.

“In the course of pursuing violence against Angeleno workers, ICE targeted and injured David Huerta for peacefully observing,” states Lourdes M. Garcia, Secretary-Treasurer of Teamsters Local 572. “There is no excuse for this lawlessness. We demand accountability and justice for those responsible. Beyond the violence of the attack on David Huerta, the raids themselves – today and in recent months — have targeted working class immigrants in their place of business, students at their sites of education, and families in their homes. There is no justification for these cruel policies.”

These raids, conducted by masked troops, led to the detention of dozens of individuals and have incited fear and unrest within our communities. The use of these heavily armed agents employing pepper spray and smoke grenades against peaceful protesters is a blatant violation of civil liberties and human rights.

Teamsters Local 572 stands in solidarity with all those affected by today’s events and calls for:

• An end to the militarization of immigration enforcement that terrorizes communities and disrupts lives.
• A thorough investigation into the conduct of ICE agents during these raids.

We urge all allies, community members, and elected officials to join us in demanding accountability and justice. The safety and dignity of our communities depend on our collective action against such oppressive measures.
